Ballad of the Landlord

 "Ballad of the landlord" is a short poem or  written by Langston Hughes(1902-1967).This poem is basically a song explaining a story. This poem represents the domination, suppression and exploitation of black people by white. The poem advocates that the racial discriminations and other inequalities between black and white must be removed. In this poem the landlord belongs to the white community whereas the tenant is black. There is a leak on the roof of the negro tenant and the steps have broken down. The landlord has already been told about it but the landlord doesn't even bother to repair it. To repair the house the landlord asks for plus ten bucks that he owes. Even after getting more than that he will not repair it instead he will get eviction orders and throw him out. The tenant claims that there is no justice and the landlord can't throw his belongings. Metaphors

 "Metaphors" is a poem written by Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) which is about pregnancy. In this poem the speaker relays her deep anxiety about motherhood and her frustration from quickly changing her body through a series of metaphors.  First of all this poem is written in 9 syllabus which illustrates 9 months long pregnancy. The pregnant speaker feels like a unsolved mystery because she is unaware about the gender of the baby. Her body is big and rounded like an elephant, a big ponderous house and a melon. She considers the baby inside her belly as precious as ivory and hopes for good of the baby. Then the state of the poem changes dark. She compares her baby inside her belly to a loaf which has risen due to yeast. Similarly, she feels like a fat purse and her baby as a new minted money which shines out. The Selfish Giant

"The Selfish Giant" is a metaphorical story written by Oscar Wilde (1854-1900). The story revolves around the character of the Giant who once was selfish became generous after meeting a boy. "The Selfish Giant" opens with the children enjoying in the garden of the Giant while he was away. Due to the children's presence it was still spring in the Giant's garden irrespective of the weather outside. When the Giant returns from his friend's home after a long vacation he hears children playing in his garden and becomes annoyed. He was so annoyed that he scared the children and built a high wall all around and put up a notice "Trespassers will be Prosecuted". The poor children now have nowhere to play but the Giant was unaware that it was the children who brought spring in his garden. Without the children the garden was cold and lonely.
